Project Overview
This project involved redesigning and rebuilding the website for MARS Wildlife Rescue, an organization that serves the Comox Valley by rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing injured or orphaned wildlife. The main objective of the redesign was to improve the visual structure, enhance usability, and modernize the layout while preserving the organization’s informational content and mission.
The original website contained important information about wildlife rescue services, visitor programs, and ways for the public to support the organization. However, the layout and structure made it difficult for users to quickly locate key information. The redesign focused on improving the overall navigation, organizing content more clearly, and creating a better visual hierarchy so visitors can easily access important sections of the site.
The website was rebuilt using HTML5 and CSS3 to create a clean and responsive layout. Semantic HTML elements were used to structure the content logically, while CSS was used to improve spacing, readability, and overall visual consistency. A small amount of JavaScript was also implemented to enhance interactivity and improve the user experience across different sections of the site.

Development Process and Results
During development, particular attention was given to improving usability and correcting issues that existed in the original website. Some layout inconsistencies and minor functional errors were identified and resolved during the redesign process. The updated layout provides a clearer structure and a more modern appearance while keeping the focus on the organization’s conservation work.
The site was built using a mobile-first approach to ensure the design works effectively on smaller screens before adapting to larger devices such as tablets and desktops. Responsive design techniques were applied so that content adjusts smoothly across different screen sizes, making the website accessible for a wide range of users.

The redesign also emphasizes important information such as the wildlife emergency contact number and visitor information. Clear headings, structured sections, and improved spacing make it easier for visitors to quickly scan the content and understand the organization’s services.
Overall, this project demonstrates practical front-end development skills including responsive layout design, usability improvements, and restructuring an existing website to create a more effective user experience. By modernizing the layout and correcting functional issues, the redesigned site provides a clearer and more accessible platform for visitors who want to learn about wildlife rescue efforts or support the work of MARS Wildlife Rescue in the Comox Valley.
